1485 – Battle of Bosworth Field: King Richard III of England is killed, ending the Wars of the Roses. Henry Tudor becomes King Henry VII, founding the Tudor dynasty.

1642 – English Civil War begins: King Charles I raises his standard at Nottingham, marking the official start of conflict between Royalists and Parliamentarians.
