Hello everyone, Bonjour tout le monde!

I’d like to acknowledge that I am coming to you from the traditional and unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinabaag peoples.

Throughout the month of June, we have marked National Indigenous History Month, a time to celebrate the rich histories, achievements, and stories of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

We also must recognize and educate ourselves on our country’s history of colonialism and its lasting impacts, including systemic racism, inequality, and discrimination against Indigenous Peoples.

Nous avons tous un rôle à jouer dans les efforts de réconciliation et je vous encourage à retenir les leçons de ce mois et à les appliquer tout au long de l’année.

Pour ma part, je m’engage à nouveau à continuer à apprendre et à écouter les histoires des peuples autochtones afin d’aider à construire un pays plus fort et plus inclusif pour tout le monde.

In my role as President of the Treasury Board, I have the opportunity to be part of the Inuit-Crown Partnership Committee.

The ICPC was created in 2017 to advance our shared priorities, strengthen the Inuit-Crown partnership, and create a more prosperous Inuit Nunangat.

I also have a unique opportunity to learn about how I can advance reconciliation in my daily life through my role as Member of Parliament for Ottawa Vanier.

Ottawa-Vanier is home to the largest Inuit population outside of Inuit Nunangat, and has a variety of Indigenous organizations who do critical work in our community.

Je participe aux activités de la communauté pour m’instruire en lisant des auteurs autochtones, en soutenant les petites entreprises autochtones locales, et j’encourage tout le monde à faire la même chose.

Alors que le Mois national de l’histoire autochtone touche à sa fin, les enseignements qui y sont liés restent gravés dans nos mémoires.

Nous devons continuer à faire l’effort de réconciliation.
