Curtin University's Dean of Global Futures Joe Siracusa discusses US President Joe Biden blocking the sale of US Steel to Japanese firm Nippon Steel.

President Joe Biden says he will block the sale of US Steel to Japanese firm Nippon Steel, a $US14 billion deal, citing national security grounds.

"It is controversial because the rank and file or the union approved it – it's $US14 billion that would have gone into infrastructure, new plants or updated plants," Mr Siracusa told Sky News Australia.

"He [Joe Biden] invoked national security and, of course, invoking national security on a Japanese company is ridiculous."
