On Thursday, Dec. 3, a dream became even more of a reality as Liberty STEAM Charter School held its first enrollment lottery. The event took place at Central Carolina Technical College's Advanced Manufacturing Technology Training Center on Broad Street.

Members of the LSC Board and local legislative delegation, socially distanced of course, along with more than 40 participants on Facebook Live, attended the special called meeting.

From Oct. 1 to Nov. 30, a total of 208 applications were received during Liberty STEAM’s initial two-month enrollment period. Because the school is open to anyone, more than 16 different zip codes were represented including Sumter, Dalzell, Shaw AFB, Manning, Lexington, Mayesville, Alcolu, Columbia and Bishopville just to name a few.

144 of the 208 scholars that applied were randomly selected for admission into the two founding grade classes - 72 in each grade level -- kindergarten and first grade.
