Project Sky Bridge

Sky Bridge, the 200-metre-long passenger footbridge on the apron of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) is a new iconic landmark. Linking Terminal 1 to the T1 Satellite Concourse, it is the world’s longest footbridge in airport restricted area, rising 28 metres above ground to allow the largest passenger aircraft, Airbus A380, to taxi underneath. Sky Bridge has become a hotspot for passengers to take in the expansive view over the airport, while snapping photos of aircraft moving underneath, through the glass floor panels. Building a giant structure weighing over 5,000 tonnes at one of the busiest airports in the world presented immense challenges to the engineering and operations teams. Airport Authority Hong Kong teamed up with National Geographic to document the making of Sky Bridge, from design to completion.
