Mike Crowe was the MVP of my husband's friendship league, a first-round pick in the draft of life. He was the kind of buddy who'd skate into your world and check any blues right over the boards. On May 2, 2024, after a tough scrimmage with ALS, Mike hung up his skates and laid down his helmet, but not without leaving a highlight reel of memories that could fill a stadium.



He had a smile that could outshine the floodlights at a night game and a laugh that echoed like a country song on a long drive home. Mike was to humor what football is to Thanksgiving—a downright tradition. When I joined Team Jesus, my husband turned into a play-by-play announcer, sharing my spiritual stats with Mike. This led to some post-game analysis during holiday gatherings, where Mike would toss me the puck with Bible trivia that turned every meal into a tailgate party.


As the seasons went on, Mike's voice may have faded like the last lap of a NASCAR race, but his spirit waved the checkered flag, signaling a race well run. I'm grateful the God gave us overtime with Mike, beyond the final buzzer the docs predicted.


The last words Mike shared were as memorable as a game-winning touchdown or a walk-off home run: "Chirl, I Believe," and "George made a good choice." Writing this feels like I've got a front-row seat at the saddest, sweetest concert ever—tears and laughter in the stands, and all for you, Mike.


So here's to you, Mike, Sleep in peace, buddy, we will truly miss your presence.
