CUBA Trinidad Classic Car Scene

Classic Cars on the streets of Trinidad in Cuba.

Thanks to Cuba's proximity to Florida, in the 1940's and 50's, it became a holiday destination for wealthy Americans and fleets of American cars were available. When Fidel Castro brought the government down with a revolution and taking over control in January 1959, the U.S. was not happy with the new communist government. This meant the supply of American cars and parts dried up overnight.
With America's export ban in place Cuba turned to their Soviet friends for vehicles, buying Ladas and Polish Fiats. Since then new cars are now unaffordable for most Cubans so their car culture is a fascinating blend of 1950's American cars and 1960/70's Soviet cars.
