The Most Unusual Guitar Repair I've Ever Done | Fire Rescue Classical

Описание к видео The Most Unusual Guitar Repair I've Ever Done | Fire Rescue Classical

When I first saw this guitar I was shocked. It belongs to a dear friend and neighbor of mine who went through this horrific fire with her family in 1990. She wrote this story.
She asked me what I could do to make it playable again. To be honest I had no idea.
It would be unlike anything I've ever done or ever seen done by any one else.
She let me bring it home where it sat on a stand for about a year.
Since it was so closely connected to this story, and also one of the very few things she was able to salvage, I wanted to sensitive to what it represented.
The guitar is a Yamaha G-235, a mid level, decent guitar that can be bought for about $300 or so in good condition.
But the damage to this guitar is extensive.
Most obvious, is the huge gaping hole in the top and side.
There are spots on the top and sides that are also singed badly.
The binding around the entire top is mostly gone. We'll need to replace it.
The binding on both sides of the neck is badly damaged or missing. We'll replace that as well.
A fan brace is badly charred and needs replacement.
There's a puncture on the upper side.
The tuners barrels and knobs are melted as well as the plastic nut.
And the face plate is badly charred, chipped and loose.
The frets, fingerboard and neck angle look pretty good so it's possible to get it playing to factory
spec or even better.
After much contemplation I finally came up with a plan that I think will honor the memory of that
horrible fire and transform this poor guitar back into a playable instrument and a one of a kind
symbol of hope and recovery from a very traumatic event.
So grab a cup of tea or some popcorn and settle in for Life from the ashes: A family's journey from tragedy.
