The sacrifice of Guru Gobind Singh Ji is a cornerstone of Sikh history, representing unparalleled courage and faith.
On 26th December every year, we commemorate the martyrdom of the Chhote Sahibzade—Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji.Their bravery in the face of tyranny remains one of the most poignant chapters in human history.
The Legacy:
Guru Gobind Singh Ji is known as Saint Soldier and Sarbans Dani (The Merciful Donor who sacrificed his all). In the struggle against religious persecution and Mughal oppression, the Tenth Master sacrificed his father, his four sons, and his mother for the sake of justice and the "Khalsa Panth."
The History of Sacrifice
The month of December marks the Saka Chamkaur and Saka Sirhind:
The Elder Sons (Vadde Sahibzade): Baba Ajit Singh Ji and Baba Jujhar Singh Ji attained martyrdom fighting thousands of enemy troops in the Battle of Chamkaur.
The Younger Sons (Chhote Sahibzade): At the ages of just 7 and 9, Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji were bricked alive at Sirhind after refusing to renounce their faith. Their grandmother, Mata Gujri Ji, also gained martyrdom alongside them.
"Jao Tao Prem Khelan Ka Chao, Sir Dhar Tali Gali Meri Aao." (If you desire to play the Game of Love, then step onto My Path with your head upon your palm.)
These words laid the foundation for the Sikh spirit. Guru Gobind Singh Ji and the Chaar Sahibzade lived these verses in their purest form, showing the world that when one walks the path of Truth and Love, even death is embraced with a smile.
In this video, I am singing 5 sacred verses from Guru Granth Sahib ji. These 5 iconic verses changed history and defined the spirit of the Khalsa.These five Shaloks (verses) from Gurbani represent the spirit of Bir Ras (the essence of courage and spiritual warriorhood). They emphasize that the path to Divine Love and Truth requires the total surrender of the ego.

1. The Call to Love written by Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਉ ਤਉ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਖੇਲਣ ਕਾ ਚਾਉ ॥ ਸਿਰੁ ਧਰਿ ਤਲੀ ਗਲੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਉ ॥ ਇਤੁ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪੈਰੁ ਧਰੀਜੈ ॥ ਸਿਰੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਕਾਣਿ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ
Jao tao prem khelan ka chao || Sir dhar tali gali meri aao || It maarag pair dhareejai || Sir deejai kaan na keejai ||20||
Translation: If you desire to play the game of love with Me, then step onto My path with your head upon your palm. Once you place your feet on this path, give your head, and do not pay any attention to public opinion.

2. The Sound of Battle written by Saint Kabir
ਗਗਨ ਦਮਾਮਾ ਬਾਜਿਓ ਪਰਿਓ ਨੀਸਾਨੈ ਘਾਉ ॥ ਖੇਤੁ ਜੁ ਮਾਂਡਿਓ ਸੂਰਮਾ ਅਬ ਜੂਝਨ ਕੋ ਚਾਉ ॥੧॥
Gagan damama bajyo paryo nisane ghao || Khet ju mandyo soorma ab jhoojhan ko chao ||1||
Translation: The sky-resounding drum of battle beats; the mind is pierced with the wound of spiritual longing. The spiritual warrior has entered the battlefield; now is the time to fight (against the ego).

3. The True Warrior written by Bhagat Kabir
ਸੂਰਾ ਸੋ ਪਹਿਚਾਨੀਐ ਜੁ ਲਰੈ ਦੀਨ ਕੇ ਹੇਤ ॥ ਪੁਰਜਾ ਪੁਰਜਾ ਕਟਿ ਮਰੈ ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਛਾਡੈ ਖੇਤੁ ॥
Soora so pehchania jo lareh deen ke het || Purja purja kat marai kabhoo na chhadai khet ||2||2||
Translation: He alone is recognized as a warrior, who fights for the sake of the humble and the righteous. He may be cut into pieces and die, but he never leaves the battlefield.

4. Acceptance of Death
Author: Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪਹਿਲਾ ਮਰਣੁ ਕਬੂਲਿ ਜੀਵਣ ਕੀ ਛਡਿ ਆਸ ॥ ਹੋਹੁ ਸਭਨਾ ਕੀ ਰੇਣੁਕਾ ਤਉ ਆਉ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੧॥
Pehla maran kabool jeevan ki chhad aas || Hohu sabhna ki renuka tao aao hamare paas ||1||
Translation: First, accept death (of the ego), and give up the hope of living (for worldly desires). Become the dust of the feet of all, and then, you may come to Me.

5. The Point of No Return
ਕਬੀਰ ਐਸੀ ਹੋਇ ਪਰੀ ਮਨ ਕੋ ਭਾਵਤ ਕੀਨੁ ॥ ਮਰਨੇ ਤੇ ਕਿਆ ਡਰਪਨਾ ਜਬ ਹਾਥਿ ਸਿਧਉਰਾ ਲੀਨ ॥
Kabir aisi hoe pari mann ko bhavat keen || Marne se kya darpna jab hath sidhaura leen ||115||
Translation: O Kabir, it has come to this: I have done what is pleasing to my mind. Why should I fear death now, when I have already taken the weapon in my hand?
