Darlene Holland says her mother always instilled in her the notion that “education is the only way out of poverty.”

Darlene is a graduate of the Coding Boot Camp Certificate Program offered through the University of Miami Division of Continuing and International Education. She is also an instructor for Girls Who Code, an organization dedicated to closing the gender gap in technology.

As a triple minority (a woman, an immigrant, and a black person), Darlene understands the importance of representation. She says she used everything she learned in the program “to be a better educator, continue to advocate for equity, and continue to empower young girls.” Thanks to the University of Miami Coding Boot Camp Certificate Program, she learned how to incorporate coding into her passion for teaching, and now helps students bridge their passions with coding too.
