This used to open a persons mind and make them re-examine their reasons or presumption is true. If you can prove them wrong and branch out and trying to find a way to prove their view wrong again until you can arrive at the truth of the circumstance.

When a person chooses to get back with you it is not about what you say or do for them, it all goes on within their head to make the decision and they will come up with assumptions, so when they think about you and you’re behaving a way that makes that thought untrue it will help him change his mind about what he originally thought about you
