JUNE SIXTH 1952 PHOM DAY TO WITNESS THIS DAY WHEREIN ALL PHOMS HAVE PLEDGED THEMSELVES TO BE PEACEFUL AND LOYAL TO GOVERNMENT.

PHOM DAY Celebrated on 6 June 2022 at Longleng Local Ground with the Chief Guest Professor Jagdish Mukhi Hon'ble Governor Govt of Assam & Nagalang and Special invitees Shri. Dharmendra Prakash (IFS) Principal Chief Conservation of Forest & Head of Forest Force Govt of Nagaland.

SIGNIFICANCE of Phom day

Phom Land wasn’t developed as it is today, roads weren’t built, development was not at all imagined of, villages were established in isolation from the others. Except for the messengers, visit to another village or tribe was the most scaring task. Fields wasn’t a safe place to work, any moment any rival would come and chop off the head. Meeting others appeared very perilous and austere given the headhunt cravings embedded as a trophy in the mind. Every village would devise how to attack another village or look for retribution.

When many of our neighboring tribes found themselves conjugated with Modernity and Civilization, Phoms were caught up scheduling their system to headhunting day after day till God sent His promising leaders with strong sense of commitment to liberate Phoms from the barbaric nature of life setting to a consciousness of moral principles, Life valuing sensitivity. Thus, in 1952, our Pioneer leaders Lt. Hamnyei Head Dobashi, Lt. Yongtaü 2nd Dobashi, Lt. Anyak and many other members risked their Lives and stood uncompromised through all these petrifying tests and nurtured this PEACE through violent environment and presented to our Generation this significant PHOM DAY.

The Peace Loving Fathers took every risk and championed in bringing all the Phoms under one Oath to live in Peace, “June 6th 1952, Phom Day to Witness This Day where in all Phoms have Pledged Themselves to be Peaceful and Loyal to Government”

Since then, Phoms have Pledged themselves to live in Peace with each other. Therefore, Celebrating or Commemorating “Peace day” on the 6th of June every year did not come just by itself. Warriors, sturdy hearted and unforgiving minds seeking for nothing but revenge, “Attack, kill, hunt heads and that’s the honor” was the catchphrase of the people. Yet they gave up their pride under the Oath “We shall live in Peace.” Since 2012, commemorating the 60th Phom Day, Phom Day is being celebrated for two years in all the Phom villages during which, peace and reconciliation between individuals, clans, villages and also with other tribes is being established. And on the third year, Phom Triennial Peace Summit is being observed in Longleng, the District Headquarters of the Phom Community.
This year, on this day the 6th of June, 2022, Phom Day marks its 70th Peace Day, which is also the Triennial Peace summit with Professor Jagdish Mukhi, Hon’ble Governor Government of Assam and Nagaland as the Chief Guest and Shri Shri Dharmendra Prakash (IFS) Principal Chief Conservator of Forest & Head of Forest Force Government of Nagaland as the Special Invitee.
