The quest for review samples of 300 AMD series continues! And we have made progress: we've got a R9 380. In fact, we have two of them - a 2GB and 4GB version. Benchmarks coming soon. Spoilers: get the 4GB version. Or an R9 280 3GB.

For now, here's our Crysis 3 gameplay comparison. Usual rules apply: we're aiming to match resolution and refresh rate for the smoothest, tear-free experience. Here we're running a Core i7 4790K overclocked to 4.6GHz with 16GB of DDR3, and we're running through the taxing Welcome to the Jungle Stage at 1080p, high settings, very high textures, SMAA T2x and v-sync.

Some stats:

R9 380 drops 539 frames (2.9% of the total) and the lowest frame-rate is 41fps.
R9 280 drops 840 frames (4.5% of the total) and the lowest frame-rate is 40fps.
GTX 960 drops 689 frames (3.7% of the total) and the lowest frame-rate is 40fps.

Not a huge amount of difference between the three, it has to be said, but the R9 380 inches ahead. We tested the 2GB R9 380 here, but Crysis 3 doesn't hit max VRAM in this title and you'll get the same result from the 4GB card. Something that can't be said for titles like Assassin's Creed Unity, Far Cry 4, Shadow of Mordor etc... more on that soon!
