At an emergency UN Security Council meeting, Venezuela’s ambassador Samuel Moncada delivered a blistering warning over U.S. actions in Venezuela, calling them a return to colonial-era practices.

Moncada said that when force is used to control resources, especially oil, it sends a devastating global message — that international law is optional and power, not rules, governs world affairs. He warned that tolerating such actions would undermine the foundations of international relations.

The remarks followed the U.S. operation targeting Nicolás Maduro, which Caracas has labeled a “colonial war” aimed at plundering Venezuela’s vast oil reserves.
