One of the most common errors is to have a run-on sentence, or a comma splice. Remember, you have to join your sentences together correctly. Here are some examples of incorrectly joined sentences: “I like apples, you like oranges.” This first example is incorrect because it uses a comma to join the two clauses. That’s a comma splice. The second example doesn’t have anything between the two clauses, so that’s a run-on sentence. We can fix this in a number of ways. The first way is to use a conjunction between the two clauses. The first one is to use a conjunction: “I like apples, and you like oranges.” Another way is to use a semi-colon or colon: “I like apples; you like oranges.” And of course the simplest way would be to just add a period and make them into two separate sentences.
