Описание к видео Catholicism didn't add these books to the Bible.

Millions of people have been lied to about this.

No, it was not at the Council of Trent in the 16th century when Catholics added the 7 Deuterocanonical books of the Old Testament to our canon.

These books were considered part of the Bible from the beginning of Christianity for a very simple reason:

The first Christians were Jewish.

The Septuagint is what Jews at the time of Jesus used as their Scripture. It is a Greek translation of the Old Testament.

Included in the Septuagint are the 7 books of the Old Testament that are not in Protestant Bibles.

Since the first Christians were Jewish, they adopted the Septuagint as their Scripture.

This is obvious, because the majority of the quotations of the Old Testament in the New Testament are quotes from the Septuagint, not the Hebrew.

The Deuterocanonical books are referenced in the New Testament and heavily quoted in the church father writings.

It was only after the start of Christianity, that Judaism removed the 7 Deuterocanonical books from their scripture to further differentiate themselves from Christians.

There were canon lists in the early church that included the Deuterocanonical books as part of the Bible and in the 4th century church councils, they were officially included in the canon.

Something so impactful is to read the early church canon lists and look at the order of the Old Testament books. The Deuterocanonical are not all together in one section, but interspersed throughout the Old Testament.

Many Protestants will say that the canon “wasn’t closed until the Council of Trent” which is deceitful. At Trent, it was clarifying what had already been decided on in the fourth century.

Yes, some canon lists in the early church didn’t include the Deuterocanonical. Many other books were also debated including Esther, Hebrews, Revelation, 2 Peter and James.

The real reason Martin Luther wanted to remove the Deuterocanonical is because in one of the books (2 Maccabees) it says it is holy to pray for the dead.

This directly went against Luther’s hatred of indulgences and how that connects to purgatory, so by saying 2 Maccabees isn’t the Bible, he could better argue for his personal theology.
