How Long Does a Protection Order Last?

Описание к видео How Long Does a Protection Order Last?

There are two types of civil protection orders: temporary civil protection orders and permanent civil protection orders. Temporary civil protection orders last for 14 days until they are continued either by agreement of the party, or by a request. If no continuance is requested and a permanent protection order is not issued at a hearing, the temporary protection order is dismissed. The parties can agree to extend a temporary protection order for a period of up to a year in order to resolve the protection order concerns. A permanent protection order, however, can last permanently. The restrained party can make a request to modify the protection order after a period of two years, as long as they meet the criteria to do so. The person that is protected will have the opportunity to address the court about their concerns should the protection order be lifted.
