Some bands are simply too ahead of their time—and Death is proof. In the early 1970s, three brothers from Detroit—David, Bobby, and Dannis Hackney—formed a rock band unlike anything else. Their music was raw, fast, and aggressive… punk before punk even existed. But the industry rejected them for one reason: their name. Labels told them to change it, but David Hackney refused, saying “Death is real.”

Without a deal, their recordings were lost to history—until decades later, when crate-digging vinyl collectors stumbled upon an old Death 45. Word spread fast, and suddenly, Death was back. Their lost album …For the Whole World to See was finally released in 2009, proving they had pioneered punk years before The Ramones or The Sex Pistols.

This is the story of a band that refused to compromise—rejected in their time, but legends in the end.
