Merle Oberon: 60 Second Bio

Merle Oberon, born Estelle Merle O'Brien Thompson on 19th February 1911 in India, was an acclaimed British actress. She faced challenges regarding her heritage due to her mixed-race background, often concealing her Anglo-Indian ancestry. Oberon's breakthrough came with her role in "The Private Life of Henry VIII". She gained further acclaim for her performance in "Wuthering Heights", where she portrayed Cathy Earnshaw alongside Laurence Olivier and David Niven. Oberon's career spanned over four decades, featuring roles in films like "The Scarlet Pimpernel", "The Lodger", and "Désirée".
She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in "The Dark Angel".
Beyond her acting talent, she was known for her elegance and beauty, becoming a prominent figure in Hollywood's Golden Age.
Off-screen she lived a private life, keeping much of her personal affairs away from the public eye. Merle Oberon passed away in 1979, leaving behind a legacy of iconic performances and memorable contributions to the film industry.
