Описание к видео Barriers to Access at the Indigenous Collections Symposium 2021

Recorded March 25, 2021

Barriers to Access
Presented by Jennelle Doyle, Library and Archives Canada

This session provides an overview of barriers to access that Indigenous people face regarding archival material. Referencing Library and Archives Canada and their collections specifically, this session focuses on how Indigenous Initiatives, such as Listen, Hear our Voices, have begun to break down these barriers and reshape traditional archival and institutional procedures. The session concludes by outlining next steps and what Library and Archives Canada is working on to ensure long-term improvement to access and use of archives by Indigenous people.

Collection in Transition
Presented by Krista Ulujuk Zawadski, Government of Nunavut

At the time Nunavut was created in 1999, the Government of Nunavut inherited a large collection that encapsulates the Heritage Collections.
This collection is categorized into Fine Art, Archaeology, Ethnographic, Natural History, Paleontology and Archives. Since the Government of Nunavut does not currently have a museum or storage facility in Nunavut to house these collections, it has had to be creative in how it oversees the collections, including storage of the collections in separate institutions. This session discusses the barriers to access that this has created as well as the creation of opportunities for access for the people of Nunavut.
