For the first time this week, I had the opportunity to publicly share the important place of Indigenous Australian culture in my own journey - a spiritual journey with Islam that began in 2004.

This week we welcomed Australia’s first, First Nations Ambassador to the UAE, His Excellency Mr Justin Mohamed Gooreng Gooreng man from Bundaberg, Queensland, and his spouse Dr Janine Mohamed, a proud Narrunga Kaurna woman from South Australia and the 2024 Victorian Australian of the Year.

Ridwaan Jadwat and I hosted a reception at our official Australian residence to honour their visit, and I was privileged to serve as emcee. I’m deeply grateful to my husband Ridwaan, His Excellency Justin Mohamed and Dr Janine Mohamed for the chance to share my journey as an Australian Muslim woman and its profound connection to Indigenous Australia.
