What is Town of Export Excellence?

A Town of Export Excellence (TEE) is a designation given to towns in India that have demonstrated significant export potential and performance. The program was launched in 2013 by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry with the aim of promoting exports from smaller towns and cities.

To be eligible for TEE status, a town must have:

• A minimum export value of Rs. 750 crore (US$100 million) for goods and Rs. 150 crore (US$20 million) for handlooms, handicrafts, agriculture, and fisheries products.
• Strong potential for further export growth.
• A supportive ecosystem for export-oriented businesses, such as good infrastructure, logistics facilities, and access to finance.

As of February 2024, there are 40+ recognized Towns of Export Excellence in India. These towns are spread across 20 states and represent a diverse range of industries, including textiles, pharmaceuticals, engineering goods, and agricultural products.

The TEE program offers a number of benefits to towns that are selected, including:

• Financial assistance for marketing and capacity building initiatives.
• Priority access to government export promotion schemes.
• Relaxation of certain regulatory requirements.
• Support for infrastructure development.
