Dixieland Rhythm Kings - Terrible Blues ~1950 (ish)

Today's song comes from a Dixieland revival band, led by Gene Mayl called the "Dixieland Rhythm Kings". Mayl started the band in 1948 with the earliest records being produced on the Jazz-Band Records label shown. I could only find five total 78's produced before the band switched over to LPs.

Gene Mayl was born in Dayton, Ohio on December 30, 1928. He became a prominent bassist...any bass, brass or string. After World War 2, he lived in France and worked with the likes of Claude Bolling, Don Byas, and Claude Luter. The band was quite active through the 1970's and was still recording albums into the early 1980's.

Today's song, "Terrible Blues" was originally written by Clarence Williams. I'm sure of the exact recording date of the record but I would put it sometime around 1950. The lineup is as follows: Carl Halen (trumpet), Charles Sonnanstine (trombone), Jim Campbell (clarinet), Jan Carroll (banjo), Gene Mayl (tuba), and Tom Hyer (drums).
