ABOUT:

An intimate look at the ongoing legacy of the renowned Huntsman and Master of Foxhounds (person responsible for the conduct of a fox hunt) Jefferson "Tot" Goodwin.

The "Black Shining Prince of Field Sports", Goodwin is currently America's only active African-American Master of Foxhounds.

Still fully engaged at age 80, he is a true "living legend" and his craft's greatest ambassador.

Born in Waverly Hall, Georgia (USA) and raised in the area surrounding Columbus (GA), Goodwin is known internationally for his horsemanship skills, hunting instincts and expertise in the breeding and management of foxhounds.

During his long and highly successful career, he has worked with many legendary figures in the fox hunting world including: Benjamin H. Hardaway III (USA), Elsie Morgan (IRE), William "Buster" Chadwell (USA), Melvin Poe (USA), Marty Woods (USA) and Patrick Anthony "Tony" Leahy (IRE/USA).

He has ridden with numerous well-known known personages, include the former U.S. First Lady, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

Since early 2000, SportsQuest International. LLC has recorded highlights of hunt meets, performance trials, hunter paces, social events and hound shows in which The Goodwin Hounds have participated.

In March 2022, Goodwin Hounds "Indigo" was named the U.S. National Champion Foxhound at the conclusion of the National Foxhound Performance Trial Championship in Hoffman, North Carolina. Later that season, Goodwin's pack won several classes at the Virginia Foxhound Show - widely regarded as the most prestigious competition for foxhounds in the United States.

In July 2024, the Masters of Foxhounds Association of North America (MFHA) presented Jefferson "Tot" Goodwin with its inaugural Distinguished Lifetime Retired Professional Staff Award.

Based in Middleburg, Virginia, the MFHA is the governing body of 135 hunts throughout the US and Canada.
