(Town of Oak Island) Following approval from investigators with the Federal Aviation Administration and Mr. Finkelstein, new video has now been released on this rescue. Captured by the Oak Island Drone Unit, the video shows the approach, landing, and immediate rescue actions.

After tumbling forward on initial contact with the water, the plane came to rest mostly submerged in an upright position. Surviving on a small pocket of air in the back of the aircraft’s cabin, Finkelstein was guided by rescuers feet-first, under the water and out through the windshield. In total, this extraction took less than 30 seconds.

Later recalling the effort, Finkelstein wrote “My deepest gratitude to all those who participated in rescuing and caring for me after my water landing … You were literally life savers!”
