The reform movement that sought to improve the status of women and remove caste restrictions was pioneered by Raja Ram Mohan Roy. Other social reformers who supported the movement include: Dayanand Saraswati, Veeraslingam Pantulu, Pandita Ramabai, Mumtaz Ali, Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar.
The reform movement sought to:

Encourage the education of women
End the ban on widow remarriage
Eradicate problems like Sati, child marriage, and dowry
Spread the knowledge of western education
Bring about freedom and equality for women
The condition of Indian women was deplorable until the 19th century. Social evils such as child marriage, female infanticide, and the sati system were prevalent.
Today, women can marry anybody they want, regardless of their caste and community. Widows can get remarried. All women have the right to vote and run for election.
Girls go to school and study with boys. After growing up, they go to colleges and universities and take up jobs after that.
