For legal reasons this is a school project

Hello everyone! A warm welcome to the new people here for Betty. I just want to say thank you so much for your kind words and posts. The idea to make a Betty music video is not one unique to me, but it's one that has been on my mind since I heard folklore for the first time; sitting on the floor of my bedroom alone with my headphones, quarantined, thinking that my struggles as a freshman in high school would be the end of the world. Spoiler alert! It was not the end of the world, and the next four years would be a whirlwind of opportunity, emotion, gain, and loss. Folklore helped me discover my love for storytelling and it's a large reason why I am attending film school in California in a few weeks.

There are multiple interpretations of the love triangle and who ends up with who etc. There isn’t really a right answer so consider my version one of those interpretations! I watched Taylor’s Long Pond Studio sessions and she covers some things that I wanted to mention. First, James and Betty ending up together. In my head, them ending up together is an alternate ending, not the reality. As a triplet, I have lots of experience of going through life in 3’s. I have learned that there’s always an easy way out when placing blame, and many times that blame isn’t fully deserved. I saw August as the “easy way out”. We can place labels like “homewrecker” and “the other woman” on her, but it’s essentially James and his ineffective communication that causes things to fall apart. I think greyness is more common than we want to believe, especially when we are young and we desire to be seen the way we want to. The triangle consists of teenagers who all want what they think they deserve. I’m interested in knowing your thoughts! I expect much of the response to have August and Betty together in solidarity rather than torn apart by some boy. Let me know :)

Much of this was inspired by the All Too Well 10 min short film. Rina Yang is the cinematographer on many of Taylor’s new music videos and I’m so blown away by her talent. Shoutout to her, this random fangirl from Seattle aspires to do what you do one day.

Did you know, according to a study, just 7% of cinematographers working on the top 250 grossing films of 2022 were women? That's up only three percent from 1998. It's my dream and passion to create and tell stories and I thank each and every one of you for your patience and guidance as I grow into the person I want to become. I’m not claiming this to be the short film of the summer or anything, but I am claiming this to be THE project I wanted to finish before I start college. Thank you to Sidh, Abby, and Madi, who let me pull you into this project with only a few weeks left of summer- please have the best time ever finishing high school and exploring the freedoms of college! Betty is dedicated to freshman year me, and all the fangirls at heart. Enjoy :)

Betty was shot over the course of 4 days in Seattle, Washington. Special thanks to the Newcomer’s and Suziki’s for locations.
