Philip Perez, MD, and Jillian Glasstetter, AuD, speak about the expanded criteria for cochlear implants.

Philip Perez, MD, subspecializes in Otology and Neurotology and is board-certified in Neurotology by the American Board of Otolaryngology. He treats the full range of otologic and neurotologic disorders, with a clinical focus on cochlear implantation and treatment of vestibular schwannoma. The son of a Mexican immigrant, he is also interested in health disparities in minority populations and expanding UPMC’s outreach to underserved communities through work with the Birmingham Free Clinic and Mission of Mercy Pittsburgh. He serves on the board of Pittsburgh’s Center for Hearing and Deaf Services and as Co-Medical Director of the Western Pennsylvania Lions Hearing Foundation.

Jillian Glasstetter, AuD, is the coordinator of the Cochlear Implant Program at UPMC. She received her Doctorate degree in Audiology from The Ohio State University after receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Science from the University of Delaware. Prior to working at UPMC, she completed her audiology residency at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, specializing in adult cochlear implant care. Her interests include adult cochlear implant assessment and programming, diagnostics, hearing aids, and clinical education. She is also a lab instructor at the University of Pittsburgh and teaches the Implantable Devices lab each summer.
