Описание к видео The Scandal That Almost Ended Patton Before D-Day

On August 3rd, 1943, General George S. Patton was having the best day of his career - Eisenhower was about to award him the Distinguished Service Cross for heroism in Sicily. That afternoon, Patton visited a field hospital to thank his wounded soldiers, and what happened in that tent would trigger the biggest scandal of his career. Patton slapped two soldiers suffering from battle fatigue, striking them, screaming at them, even pulling his pistol on one. Sixty American and British reporters knew about it, and every single one agreed to bury the story. For three months, the cover-up held - until radio commentator Drew Pearson broke the news to America. Politicians demanded Patton's head, newspapers called him a brute, and it seemed like his career was finished. But Eisenhower refused to break, protecting Patton because he believed America needed its most aggressive general to win the war. This documentary examines the slapping incidents, the three-month cover-up, the politicians who wanted Patton destroyed, and the generals who saved him.
