we hiked to the abandoned village of Lost Cove located in North Carolina. It is labeled as a ghost town. The last family left this already small community in 1957. The town was settled in before the start of the Civil War. It is located near the Nolichucky river in the Poplar Gorge area. There is a railroad next to the river. Parts of the town were also destroyed during a fire in 2007. This community was known for logging, moonshining, and farming. It is located on the border of Tennessee and North Carolina.

For those that are interested in visiting this Trail. If you use the directions given by all trails, it will not take you to the correct area. You will have to get off of 19W and drive onto White Oak Rd to Flattop Rd. The road you have to drive up is probably at least a mile or two until you get to the parking spot. It is steep and all gravel so be mindful of the vehicle you take up there. The parking spot is gravel and natural ground so you won't be driving to a typical parking lot.
