In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about The Tarakeswar affair, also known as the Tarakeswar scandal or the Mahant-Elokeshi affair, a public scandal in 19th-century Bengal during the British Raj. Elokeshi, a 16 year girl was decapitated by her husband on suspicion of a love affair between Elokeshi and Mahant of Tarakeswar temple. The case resulted into a highly highly publicised trial known as Tarakeswar murder case of 1873.
