We have something a bit different and exciting for the Rolex lover in this watch – a Brevet / Rolex Milgauss

Associated in the 1950’s with the supply of crowns and other parts for Rolex watches, these days the Brevet name relates to a company specialising in customising and re-designing high end wristwatches – in fact they invented ADLC, DLC and PVD coatings.

One of the most individual wristwatches of the 1950’s, in 1956 Rolex presented the 6541 Milgauss – the first automatic wristwatch specifically designed to withstand strong magnetic fields making it useable in scientific environments. The 6541 had a textured ‘waffle’ dial, ‘lightning’ hands and a black ridged bezel with a red triangle at the top like some of the very early Submariners.

As a nice 6541 can sell for up to £100,000 these days, Brevet took 56 contemporary Milgauss watches (as a nod to the 1956 launch of the original) and added carbon fibre dials and special bezels and the result was a stunning looking and very individual watch. At £12,000 new, they were significantly less costly than the original although still a lot of money.

The asking price is often still high whenever one of the 56 comes on the market but we believe that this one is priced correctly and represents good value for money and a good medium term investment too.

The work has been carried out to a very high standard and this particular watch – No 8 of 56 – has hardly been worn so it’s like new. Complete with everything that came with it from new and a later letter of authenticity from Brevet +, this is a genuine and pretty perfect Full Set.
