Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood says the government's changes to the sexual harassment act are "still lacking" the detail so businesses are certain as to "where they stand if they try to dismiss someone for misconduct".

"Right now, with the fair work commission, what you'll tend to find is, people will go to the commission claiming unfair dismissal. In many cases, employers literally pay them off rather than go through the process," he said.

"They're always concerned the fair commission will land on the employee's side all the time. In the case of sexual harassment, it won't be that easy for employers, and they're going to have to have proper processes and structures.

"This is where the detail of what the government has announced has not really been properly fleshed out... so that businesses are very certain as to where they stand if they try to dismiss someone who they have discovered has been harassing somebody else in the workplace."
