Bring the wonder of the Northern Lights into your craft room! In this week’s tutorial, I’ll show you how to use Stampin’ Up!’s stunning Lights of Aurora Designer Series Paper to create breathtaking handmade cards. These Northern Lights–inspired backgrounds are the perfect blend of bold colour, soft shimmer, and simple design—proof that beauty doesn’t have to be complicated.
Welcome back, creative friends! I’m Marilyn, an independent Stampin’ Up! demonstrator from Spruce Grove, Alberta, Canada. I’m so glad you’re here to craft with me tonight! In this video, we’re diving into one of the most beautiful paper collections in the current Stampin’ Up! lineup—the Lights of Aurora Designer Series Paper. With its moody blends of purples, blues, greens, and shimmering whites, it perfectly captures the natural glow of the Northern Lights.
I’ll walk you through how I used this paper to create quick, elegant birthday cards featuring a simple silhouette scene. Whether you’re new to cardmaking or have been stamping for years, you’ll love how easily this layout comes together. No fancy tools required—just a die cut, a little heat embossing, and that gorgeous Lights of Aurora DSP to do the heavy lifting!
We’ll also chat about what’s new and exciting in the world of Stampin’ Up!:

Throughout the video, you’ll see how the Lights of Aurora DSP shines as the star of the show. Each sheet tells its own story—dramatic skies, soft colour shifts, and stunning light reflections. I used the Autumn Trees Dies to create a deer silhouette scene and added embossed greetings from the With You in Mind stamp set (a Million Sales Achiever exclusive). This simple combination of textures and tones makes your DSP feel like an art print all by itself!
You’ll also see my comparison of different card orientations—landscape versus portrait—and hear some creative ideas from viewers during the live chat, like using retired marble paper for similar results. I even share insights from a fascinating Stampin’ Up! tutorial about creating 3D frames (from page 43 of the catalogue)—a perfect way to display your DSP as home décor pieces!
As always, thank you for joining me for another Thursday night of stamping fun. I love seeing your comments and hearing about how you decorate for fall—pumpkins or skeletons, cozy or spooky, it’s all part of the creative spirit we share.
