Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed today at the Northeast’s first Emergency Landing Facility on the Moran bypass in Assam and witnessed a high intensity aerial display by fighter jets, transport aircraft and helicopters. Developed in coordination with the Indian Air Force, the 4.2 kilometre stretch in Dibrugarh district can transform from a highway into a functional runway during emergencies. The dual use facility can handle fighter aircraft up to 40 tonnes and transport aircraft up to 74 tonnes, making it a major strategic asset in a sensitive border region. Beyond military readiness, the ELF will strengthen disaster response in a region prone to floods and landslides. After the event, Modi will head to Guwahati to launch development projects worth over 5,000 crore rupees and inaugurate a bridge over the Brahmaputra, blending security and growth in one powerful message.
