Combat mechanics:
Weapons: Dante can use a combination of melee and ranged weapons, including his signature Rebellion sword and the Ebony and Ivory pistols. More demonic weapons are obtained by defeating bosses.
Styles: The "style" system allows players to switch between four different combat styles (Trickster, Swordmaster, Gunslinger, and Royal Guard), each affecting Dante's moves and abilities.
Ranking: A "style" ranking system measures how creatively and efficiently the player defeats enemies. Higher ranks are earned by performing diverse attacks without getting hit, and they provide rewards.
Devil Trigger: The Devil Trigger ability allows Dante to transform into his demonic form for a temporary power boost.



Difficulty: The original release of Devil May Cry 3 was notorious for its high difficulty, a trait that was praised by many for returning the series to the challenging gameplay of the original Devil May Cry.
Special Edition: The Special Edition of the game introduced several new features, including the ability to play as Vergil and an easier difficulty mode that replaced the original's Easy mode.
