Bucerius Kunst Forum's current exposition" Georges Braque. Tanz der Formen" was created in collaboration with the Centre Pompidou. Due to the current situation, Prof. Dr. Andreas Hoffmann, Managing Director of the Bucerius Kunst Forum, together with the pianist Alexander Krichel, designed a new series of videos inspired by Mussorgsky's piano cycle Pictures at an Exhibition. In the series, the ECHO Klassik award winner is musically approaching the works of the French painter. In three encounters, Krichel juxtaposes Georges Braque's paintings with the thematically appropriate compositions of his contemporaries.

Until 30 April 2021 which marks the end of the Braque Show, a new video will be published every week - and despite the closed cultural institutions, the inspiring interplay of art and music will be brought to those interested in culture all over Germany and the world.

"Corona invites us to new collaborations: In Alexander Krichel we have found a great young pianist who, with his virtuosity on the piano, deepens and increases the enjoyment of art when looking at Braque's paintings," explains Prof. Dr. Andreas Hoffmann, managing director of the Bucerius Kunst Forum. "I would like to thank the managing director of the Kunst Forum Andreas Hoffmann and pianist Alexander Krichel very much for their great commitment to this new form of musical and artistic communication," said Prof. Dr. Michael Göring, CEO of the ZEIT Foundation Ebelin and Gerd Bucerius. Alexander Krichel emphasizes: “Working together with the Bucerius Kunst Forum on the project Pictures at an Exhibition was a real blessing for me. Approaching the wonderful works of Georges Braque, taking into account his biographical-artistic development and choosing the right music for them, gave me a lot of pleasure. The strong synergy that resulted from the project was breathtaking. I very much hope that in the future we will be able to create more such special experiences and then let a live audience participate. "

All three musical exhibition tours begin with the promenade of the piano cycle Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky from 1847. Here the Russian composer takes the audience on an acoustic promenade through the memorial exhibition of paintings and drawings by his deceased friend Viktor Hartmann. Then Andreas Hoffmann gives an insight into the idea and conception of the video series as well as the selection of the individual compositions and their musical historical embedding.

All videos of the series can be found on the Bucerius Kunst Forum website as well.

Georges Braque. Tanz der Formen is created in collaboration with the Centre Pompidou, Musée national d'art moderne, Paris.
