Meeting the Sonic the Hedgehog Cast at GalaxyCon Live - November 6th, 2020

GalaxyCon Live was experiencing technical difficulties that Friday so I was pulled into a Zoom meeting while one of its websites likely underwent maintenance. Until a customer service representative gave me a phone call to notify me what was going on, I thought I wasn’t going to make it because I had to go to work the next day. I remember panicking internally when an hour passed and it looked like the line wasn’t moving forward so I thank this hardworking person for reaching out. People like her that make these arrangements and accommodate reservations for the site’s customers to the best of their abilities during the pandemic don’t get enough credit for what they do. ^_^

My conservation with Roger Craig Smith, Mike Pollock, and Colleen O’Shaughnessey was like speaking with a group of friends back when I worked on occasional group projects in college. It was much more down-to-earth than I expected it would be and I absorbed so much from what they had to say. The fact that Pollock told me that he visits Grand Central Station regularly got me to realize that it is not just a tourist attraction, which is what I found to be fascinating. HorrorKid had a couple of questions for me to pass onto them like he did when I chatted with Martinet so from now on, anytime I say something like “a friend of mine who can’t afford to make it wanted me to ask if…”, you’ll know it’s him that I’m talking about.

For much of my childhood and teen years, Kate Higgins was the only voice of Tails I was familiar with so I had little exposure to what O’Shaughnessey’s portrayal was like. I was still playing Sonic Lost World at the time of this meet-and-greet, which I believe is the last game in the series that Higgins portrayed Sonic’s best friend. Thankfully, O’Shaughnessey wasn’t offended and her story on how she got the role was insightful and thorough. It was humble that she and Higgins interacted shortly before the role was passed onto her. ^_^

During the conversation, I wanted to get a sense of what O’Shaughnessey’s portrayal of Tails was like so when we were told that time’s almost up, I took the moment to request her, Smith, and Pollock to provide a sample of their voices. I don’t know why in tarnation I said “standing ovation”. I was nervous and I meant to say, “last but not least”. What I can say is that hearing Smith, Pollock, and O’Shaughnessey bid me farewell in their characters’ voices got me feeling like I was included in Sonic’s world. In conclusion, my video chat with these talented individuals completed my childhood. :D

P.S. Enjoy watching me struggle to show my face on Zoom in the first minute of this video. It was a little embarrassing trying to figure out what was wrong with my built-in camera at first.
