Doctor Vinay Garodia from Synergy Eye Care explains about Optic Neuritis. Optic nerve connects the eye to the brain and transmits the visual signals. Optic Neuritis is inflammation or swelling of the optic nerve, and it leads to severe vision loss. It can affect one or both eyes and can sometimes be associated with other neurological problems. The diagnosis is clinical and is helped by special tests like FA, Fields, VER, MRI, etc.

For Optic Neuritis, often a high dose of steroids is given by IV route. A prompt and aggressive treatment often leads to improvement of vision in most patients. It may sometimes recur, especially if associated with a neurological disease called multiple sclerosis. Therefore, a regular eye checkup is necessary even after recovering from the disease. The doctors at Synergy Eye Care are well experienced in treating this disease, with good results.
