I'd change this about my van

When I was building my van 4 years I didn't really know anything about building vans so i just watched some videos and made it up as I went

Now after 4 years of living in it heres something I would definitely change

I don't like how I did my countertops

The butcher block is cool and everything but its annoying to maintain, at least the way I did it (probably a skill issue)

When I built out my van I wanted to keep the countertops food safe so i could basically cut food right on my counter instead of a cutting board (fast forward 4 years and not once have i done that)

Because of that I actually stained my countertops with coffee instead of actual wood stain and sealed them with shellac instead of a different kind of finish

I thought it would be fine but I regret it now

It's just way more sensitive to moisture and heat so now I have to be much more careful about wiping up spills immediately and if i put anything too hot on the counter it will leave a mark

And I have to refinish it like once or twice a year to keep it looking good by sanding down the imperfections, then laying on a few new coats of shellac to fix anything thats flaked off

All things you dont want to have to worry about when you live in a van

But you don't know what you don't know on your first van build and I'll keep that in mind for the next one....
