Waking up under anaesthesia (awareness under general anaesthesia or AAGA) is a potentially catastrophic but fortunately rare occurrence.

The anaesthetist is with the patient for the entire operation keeping a close watch on all the patient's vital signs and monitors to keep them under a balanced carefully titrated anaesthetic
