Refrigerants | Types | Properties | Applications

Описание к видео Refrigerants | Types | Properties | Applications

#Refrigerant is a medium which absorbs heat from another medium or substance which is to be cooled.
This presentation briefs about classification, properties and uses of commonly used refrigerants.
We were using #ice_as_refrigerant from thousands of years.
Refrigerant classification:
1. #Inorganic Refrigerants
2. #Organic Refrigerants

1. Organic Refrigerants
a. Ammonia #R717
Latent heat of vaporization= 1315 kJ/kg (at -150C)
Reacts with copper and bronze.
Application in large compression systems, cold storage, ice-cream and ice plant, breweries.

b. Carbon Dioxide #R744
Latent heat of vaporization= 574 kJ/kg
Evaporator pressure = 20.7 bar
Condenser Pressure = 70 bar
Application: ships

c. Sulphur dioxide #R764
Latent heat of vaporization= 396 kJ/kg
Corrosive to steel. Sulphurous acid.
Leak detection using ammonia swab.
Application: foods and beverages
d. Air #R729
e. Water/ Ice
2. Organic Refrigerants
a. Hydrocarbons: #R290, #R600, #R600a
b. Halocarbons: #R11, #R12, #R13, #R22, #R134a
c. Azeotropes: #R500
1. Primary Refrigerants: R12, R717, R134a etc.
2. Secondary Refrigerants:
They are Cooled by primary refrigerants
E.g. Water, Brine, glycol solutions
Ethylene and propylene glycols: Antifreeze
Applications: Breweries, Ice plant, Meat,
food ,dairy etc.
The properties mainly discussed here are as follows:
a. #Latent heat of vaporization
b. #toxicity, #flammability, #corrosives
c. #evaporator pressure
d. #Condenser Pressure
e. #boiling Point
f. #leak_detection_test
g. #storage_tank_colour
