Gameplay of the hidden character Ninon Beart in SNK’s King of Fighters Maximum Impact 2/King of Fighters 2006.

Ninon Beart is the sister of the game’s resident genki girl, Mignon Beart. So, Mignon is the genki girl, so Ninon is of course the token gothic Lolita character of the game. Makes sense, I suppose, even if they’re both pretty uninspired characters.

So, another unique character for once. Makes a change, certainly. Despite her generic design, Ninon is actually surprisingly formidable. She has a unique projectile where, by pressing qcb+P after it’s launched, it will actually deal double damage against the opponent. Her dial-combos are very easy to use, and she has a number of area-of-effect Uriko-esque special moves which not only chain really easily into combos, but also hit on the ground-as-well, meaning she can tear off a chunk of your life if you’re not careful. If that wasn’t all, she also has the ability to teleport, like a character out of Samurai Shodown. Keep that point in mind, it will be relevant later.

On the whole, Ninon is pretty formidable, and in the right hands can deal a stellar amount of damage with her combos. The only thing I found is that she is, in general, overly reliant on combos, meaning that while her regular attacks and special moves have decent counter properties to them, she feels like a bit of a glass-cannon; if you up the pressure on your opponent then you can absolutely annihilate them, but falter or hesitate and she can start getting absolutely destroyed if you’re not careful, and she seems more difficult to recover with than other characters. Other than that, I think she’s a pretty great character on the whole.

Lastly, doesn’t she remind you a ton of 2B from Nier: Automata? It’s a similar Gothic Lolita design, I guess.
