Joyo Dark Flame vs Uzi shootout: which is the best cheap high gain overdrive pedal for you?

Описание к видео Joyo Dark Flame vs Uzi shootout: which is the best cheap high gain overdrive pedal for you?

Today we’re comparing two of the best cheap high gain overdrive/distortion pedals money can buy – it’s the Joyo Dark Flame and the Joyo Uzi!

Now, I’ve made videos on each of these pedals separately before, but the questions kept coming in about how they compared directly to one another – so here’s your answer!

The Dark Flame is Joyo’s take on the Revv G3 pedal (and maybe with a bit of the Revv G4 in it too!). It’s a super modern drive pedal, capable of massive amounts of gain while staying crisp and defined throughout. In short, it’s a pedal that’s simply ideal for 21st century genres like progressive metal, djent, and so on, although it’s also great for stadium-filling rock sounds of all styles.

The Uzi is a slightly more classically voiced pedal. Based on the iconic Friedman BE-OD overdrive, it’s more like a heavily modded Marshall amp of yore – and it reflects that in its thick and rich overdrive tones that are simply perfect for hard rock, classic metal and more.

So both these pedals – like the Revv and the Friedman stompboxes they’re based on –ultimately have their roots in the Marshall school of tone… but different classes in that school.

The question is: which of these pedals is best for you? Well, hopefully I can answer that question for you here! All you need to do is listen in and see which one sounds best to your ears. In the video, I run the pedals through a couple of hard rock loops played on the bridge humbucker of my Epiphone Les Paul. The pedals are running into my Hughes & Kettner AmpMan Classic on the clean channel, with no reverb.

Which one do you think sounds best?

My setup was as follows: I ran the two pedals into the front end of my Hughes & Kettner AmpMan Classic pedal amp, then went from the Red Box DI straight into my Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, which went into Logic Pro X. That’s it. No post-processing on the sounds was done. Oh, and I used my Boss RC-10R to record and play the loops. Here’s some links to those bits of gear:
