Why Ghana Flooded 3.6% of Their Land

Описание к видео Why Ghana Flooded 3.6% of Their Land

in 1960, the government of #Ghana made the decision to construct one of the largest dams of its time to hold back to waters of the Black, White and Red #Volta rivers for a hydroelectric power station. From and engineering perspective, the project was a success and enabled the start of an aluminum industry in Ghana, but the impacts on Ghana's environment and rural population has been tremendous. The #Akosombo Dam creates the single largest artificial lake of the world. The Volta Lake, which has been created behind the dam spans over 400 kilometers and covers an area of 8500 square kilometers, drowning 3,6% of the entire landmass of Ghana. This video explores the History which led up the construction of the dam, as well as the impact which it has on the people and environment.
