DIY Horns & Elf Ears for Cosplay, Costumes and Halloween

Описание к видео DIY Horns & Elf Ears for Cosplay, Costumes and Halloween

Things you need:

Horns:
Aluminum foil
Polymer clay, I use Super sculpey (it needs to be baked in the oven) Always read the instructions on the clay of your choosing to avoid mishaps.
Sculpting tools, I use tools of metal and silicone
Brushes
Acrylic paint

Ears:
Already made ears (I’m unable to make a video of mine as I made them I school (2013-14) and I have to many new piercings to make new ones at the moment), you can find good tutorials on how to make them on YouTube, like this one:    • How to Take An Ear Cast
Chavant clay, if you have it warmed up it’s easier to work with (01:16).
(02:00) Warning! I’m using something called ”medicinsk bensin” in Swedish (I don’t know what its called in English, but its used to remove adhesive from medical tape) to smooth out the Chavant clay, as I was taught to do in school. But using small amounts of water, citrus-based solvents, lighter fluid, latex paint removers, turpentine or mineral spirits as a lubricant on the surface of the clay will also help to attain a smooth surface.
(02:10) Vaseline or petroleum jelly as a barrier for the plaster not to stick to the ear and base
(02:19) Air drying clay
(02:42) Ultracal 30 gypsum cement (hard plaster to avoid the pieces from breaking under pressure, even if mine did in the video), tools like a bowl and stirring stick, gloves, face mask and eye protection.
(03:40) filling in the hole as to avoid the top piece to get stuck
(03:53) another layer of Vaseline/perolium jelly to avoid the plaster to stick to the other pieces
(04:53) The ear broke because the bace of the ear wasn’t smooth enough so I had an undercut (this video shows pretty well what an undercut is:    • What is an Undercut?  ). I made these ear casts in 2013-14 at school and totally forgot I had that problem. Its not the first time I boken them, but its easily fixed with some strong glue made to fix plaster :)
(05:22) Removing the residues of the Chavant
(05:46) Removing the bump that causes the undercut
(06:23) More Vaseline/petrol jelly to help avoid the silicone to get stuck
(06:36) Sculpt Gel (by mouldlife) is what I prefer using when making ears. Its really made for creating scars, blemishes, moles etc. But I found that its excellent when creating quick ears that is done in about 10 min or so.
(06:45) The silicone is made out of 3 parts: A, B and C. A and B is the bace components and C is a softener. So all you need is equal part A, B and C to make the ears more lifelike (don’t use more than 1/3 amount of C as it otherwise might not cure(as seen later in video at 08:00)). If you use this silicone, read the instructions to know more about it.
(07:09) I found that using silicone pigment works great to color this gel. And a small amount goes a long way!
(07:24) Adding the silicone on all the parts before pressing them together will reduce the amount of bubbles that may appear.
(07:45) Press press press
(08:20) Touch the protruding silicone to know when its ready to demold.
(08:32) Remove any excess around the ear. But remember to not remove too much of the thinner parts that suposed to sitt directly on the ear, the thinner that part is, the easier it it to blend in the edge to the ear.
(08:55) As the Scuplt Gel adhere to itself its easy to add more silicone to smooth out harsh edges and bubbles. (09:03) Us Isopropyl/rubbing alcohol with a dabbing motion to remove any shine from the silicone.
(09:09) the amount of colorant change the shade, so you might need 1 or 2 tries before geting the shades exact :)

(09:12) Maximus❤️

(09:46) I’m using the Sculpt Gel to adhere the ear to my own and some alcohol to remove the shine.

(10:26) I’m using Kryolan Mastix Spirit Gum to adhere the horns.
