A few years ago, my favourite way to procrastinate was video games. I’d turn on the PlayStation, put on my headphones, grab the controller… and disappear from reality. It wasn’t relaxation… it was running away. But one shift changed everything for me.

I started looking at every task through what I call the barakah mindset… and it flipped procrastination on its head.

This mindset helped me get into dentistry, memorise a third of the Qur’an, and still volunteer consistently for over two years. The barakah mindset is about tafakkur… deep reflection. Every time I sit down to work, I think about the day I’ll be asked about these very seconds I’m wasting deciding whether to work or delay.

The Prophet ﷺ said our feet won’t move on the Day of Judgement until we’re asked about four things… and one of them is how we spent our youth.

So next time you catch yourself procrastinating, pause and ask yourself: “If the angel of death came to me right now, would I be proud of how I just spent this moment… or regret it?”
