Описание к видео The First Ever recording of 'Hear My Prayer' and its not what you think!

Recorded by Columbia Records on 28 March 1927 in St George's Chapel Windsor with the choir directed by Edmund H Fellowes and John Grant-Anderson as the treble soloist in Mendelssohn's 'Hear My Prayer' The organist was Malcolm Boyle.

This was just eight days before Ernest Lough recorded his famous version with the Temple Church choir and Columbia agonised whether to release it in direct competition.

Columbia now had this recording of a prestigious soloist from one of the most famous choirs in England, so they decided to release the recording, which they did so in July 1927, pitching it head on with Ernest Lough, already receiving rave reviews.

The comparisons were inevitable and initially the Grant-Anderson recording received some poor reviews, however, as the record had a second pressing, sales couldn't have been that bad!

Thomas Logan John Grant-Anderson, (known as John) was born 1912 in Lucknow, India and returned to England at a young age with his family and was 14 years old when he made the recording.
