We’re ripping out 57 years of electrical wiring from the engine room of our 1969 aluminum yacht as part of Operation Silent Running — our full hybrid-electric conversion.

Over the decades, every owner added to the electrical system. At the time, it probably all made sense. But now, many of those wires are dead, abandoned, and leading nowhere. Before we can install a modern hybrid propulsion system, lithium battery bank, and new electrical architecture, we have to remove everything that doesn’t belong.

This isn’t just cleanup — it’s the foundation for a reliable hybrid-electric yacht.

And we’re doing it while still living onboard.

Operation Silent Running is our real-time conversion of a 56-year-old 78’ aluminum trawler into a hybrid-electric motor yacht. We’re documenting every step: engine removal, electrical redesign, lithium installation, and the future of hybrid propulsion in larger boats.

We’re partnering with OSEA Boats on Tangaroa’s Hybrid-Electric conversion. This project is crowd-funded and supported by our online crew, not handed to us for free. We’re investing our own money into a system we believe in and documenting the entire build in real time—what works, what doesn’t, and what it actually takes to convert a 56-year-old aluminum motor yacht to Hybrid-Electric. Our goal is simple: show real-world results, not marketing claims.
