Writing allows you to externalize your thoughts from your mind onto paper or a digital screen. This process can provide a sense of relief as it frees up mental space and reduces the burden of carrying all your thoughts solely in your head.

Writing can promote self-reflection, leading to greater self-awareness and insight into your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This self-awareness can help you identify triggers for overthinking and stress, as well as develop healthier coping strategies.

When you write about your worries or stressors, you may gain a different perspective on them. As you reflect on what you've written, you might discover alternative interpretations, recognize irrational thoughts, or find silver linings that you hadn't considered before.
